Our Mission
Our mission here at the Moncton Lions Club "Ladder-Up Program" is to enable our youth to achieve their highest potential in our society,
A segment of our youth is being left behind by an educational system that has concentrated on academic achievement and forgotten those who love working with their hands and minds.
Everyone knows someone having difficulty in schools or that has dropped out, and the number of youth beyond the school system wandering through life with no marketable skills and little hope is a significant loss to Canada's productivity.
The Moncton Lions Club program entitled "Ladder-Up" is designed to provide soft skills and trades training.

At risk youth between 12 and 18 are one of the groups that need this intervention.
The department of Education recognizes the need for work experiences for those in the alternate education stream, but so far have not been able to find effective locations in the industry to provide this. Ladder-Up is the ideal solution where students can get their hands dirty building and repairing amazing things with instructor guidance.

Ladder-Up programs are build around the concept of learning through practical application, using a hands-on environment. During program development, senior people in a field are often consulted for their advice. Our onsite staff are a mixture of trades certified man and women, and mentors, who together have many years experience in their chosen fields. In some programs, work placements also contribute to getting you ready to work at a beginning level upon course completion.

Ladder-Up work skills, Job training and our soft skills training gives students a head start on Trades Training. These courses provide the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in future trades and apprenticeship training.

Ladder-Up students can ask their trades instructor, or our educational tutor, for free tutorial assistance in math, science, study skills and blueprint reading. Practical approaches to problem solving are used to assist students with the application of theoretical concepts to job-related tasks. Tutorial sessions are on a drop-in basis, and students are asked to bring their course materials with them.

Their education will go beyond the classroom and will involve the people, environments, and tools that they will encounter in the real world. Project-based learning, applied research and up-to-date training will allow them to gain a competitive edge- and know the workplace and what to expect even before completing the program.

Our Ladder-Up program receives strategic advice and assistance from a cross-section of employers, and other professionals working in the industry. Students will stay current on the latest developments of their chosen industry, ensuring they are learning everything needed to get hired.

Training prepares students from entry-level employment in the chosen trade. Basic theory and related information along with hands-on shop practice enable students to become competent in basic tasks. Upon successful completion of the program, students can seek employment, internships or an apprenticeship.
